Over a decade ago I was staying at Fort Flagler for an event. There's a campground opposite the fort itself that I walked down to afterwards. It opens up right into a little pocket of the Puget Sound from which I stood in awe. It was early fall, and the late-morning fog had risen up high enough to reveal the face of this huge rock that jutted out of the ocean not too far away. It extended back, nestling a canal of water between it and another landmass. It made birds feel like tiny clouds, it was like a scene out of some crazy, exploratory video game or atmospheric movie. It's captured my imagination since.

This digital illustration is an attempt at capturing some of that grandeur.
