What does it take to make a mockup look realistic?

Our brains take in so many bits of information, we don't realise how many little things we actually notice that make us believe something is real instead of just an illustration.

In this mockup, it might seem like a pretty unimportant thing, but the way the light crumples around the objects gives the illusion the are actually wrapped and have depth.

Similarly, instead of a flat background, we have used an overlay of light scattering through a glass. How it projects over the background and objects has all kinds of imperfections that help us to accept the image as real.
