Botanical Shadow Mockup

The trick to making shadows look good on overlays is not to simply blur a silhouette and apply the overlay. Linear light works much better because shadows are actually a contrast between the bright parts and the dark parts. That means in some places they should make the image brighter, not just darker.

Also, because of how light rays work, some shadows are cast from different distances, so some are sharper and others are blurrier.

It's subtle, but it can make a huge difference to the realism of the end result.
