Make it Easy to Start

Sometimes starting is the hardest part of any new thing we want to do. But making that entry point as easy as possible will help to gain momentum. For example, say you want to start posting your lettering regularly to Instagram but you’re paralysed to begin.

Maybe start with just a single letter, running through the alphabet. Once you’ve made that a habit, you could then move onto a whole word and then onto a composition. Look at a bicycle. Most of the effort comes from starting and getting the thing moving. But once it’s going it takes a lot less effort to keep up the momentum.

One way to make the start easier is to begin going down a hill. Look at what you want to start and try and find a simple, easier way to get yourself into it. Once you've done that the other pieces will fall into place.
