Lips game manual (2008) | Beyoncé screen

Client: Microsoft Games Studios
Markets: US, EU, AU
Roles: UX team lead, UX content designer

SITUATION
Joined team with three months to complete content. Due to music licensing hindrances, song list wasn't locked and no lyrics had been built. Also, vocals (sounds, noises, non-linguistic syllables) and workflows had not been factored for.

CHALLENGE
Lips presented an interesting challenge. Not only are the lyrics and vocals critical to the gameplay experience, this content is entirely interactive, requiring an experience that's accessible, immersive, and synchronized to a very high standard on multiple levels.

HOW I HELPED
► Ideated a content production pipeline that facilitated rapid prototyping, testing, and iteration on lyrics and vocals.
► The pipeline's key strength was its multidisciplinary collaboration between the UX, Test, and Producer/Licensing teams.

OUTCOME
Strategy enabled team to deliver on time without increasing costs an exponentially more playable and pleasurable music video game experience.

NOTE
UX stakeholders weren't aware of Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Maroon 5's Adam Levine. Initially, their images weren't slated to be in the game 's manual. I worked with Licensing and Design to get approvals cleared and have these artists' in-game images added to the manual. This came to be regarded as a huge win for users and the team.
