James Joyce glasses
The 2019 Trieste Joyce School visuals.
I've opted for Snellen's eye charts with the allusions that are readable to Joyceans: it is a visual reference to Joyce's vision impairment - hence the eyeglasses. It suggests his declining eyesight, but also the letters themselves are broken up to relate to Joyce's linguistic acrobatics.
As the experiences with ophthalmologists implies, one needs to concentrate to read all the elements of the chart, which in the realm of design is what an eye-catching visual ought to do. The viewer or a passer-by should stop to get the entire information.
Therefore, I thought playing with those premises and concepts would be more convenient and meaningful to the nature of the school, as well as having a design that would steer off the usual or expected conveyances.
