Ironmonger: Anvil Beer Can Design

Created for Ironmonger Brewing Company in Marietta, Ga, Anvil is one of five beer labels featured. In addition to the packaging, the artist also created the company's logo and the blacksmith motif that are carried throughout the series.

Anvil features the following notable elements: Ironmonger's hand-drawn blacksmith motif, metal textures, wrought iron scroll work, muted hues of blue and gold, and a repeating hops pattern in the background.

To balance out the masculine nature of the blacksmith and the heavy black areas, the artist added pops of color and feminine touches of wrought iron and hops.

Anvil is inspired by the ancient art of blacksmithing. To communicate this theme to the audience, the artist created the logo first, incorporating wrought iron scroll work and an old school mining font into the design.

Next, the flagship blacksmith motif was drawn, which is also highlighted with wrought iron scroll work. Behind the blacksmith is a metal texture, and below the blacksmith is the outline of an anvil. These individual elements come together to emphasize the theme and create a timeless mood and feel.

To give the design a more contemporary touch, the artist brought the theme to life by accenting with sans serif fonts, clean lines, and background line drawings.

There are 5 can designs in this Ironmonger series.
