LookSeed Moth

The LookSeed Project

I created an interactive project that seeds behaviors addressing ecological topics. Stickers with QR codes are placed on specific objects encouraging viewers to “look” at the interactive triggers. When the QR is read information is presented framing the viewer’s circumstance that “seed” a specific sequence of behaviors. Stickers are delivered in seed packets with instructions on the back on how to plant in public places.

The Moth
I began with the simple act of turning off lights to lower electricity resource consumption. The moth and its compulsions towards electric lights became the most obvious totem.

How it works
1. Sticker are placed near lights or light switches.

2. When the QR moth is read by a smartphone, the trigger appears to use the phone’s camera sensor to displays the local light source’s resource consumption.

3. After the light’s resource spectrum is revealed the participant is prompted to turn off the light to reveal other glow in the dark moths.

4. Lastly, the participant is encouraged to follow the moth’s Instagram feed, share photos of lights or order moth sticker seed packets.
