🤔Design thinking is beyond good & evil

One morning, I spoke with a design student about the role of design in the world. Admirably, this young man felt that design's purpose in the world was certainly to improve the human condition, and that design thinking itself is a force for good.

And while I agreed with him that design can and should be used for good, the reality is that design thinking is merely a tool—a way of thinking. And tools can be used for any purpose, even those that we deem to be unethical.

Design thinking can be a force for good, but only after asking ourselves the hard questions—why should we design something? What purpose does it serve? And how does it benefit humanity?

I made this sticker to serve as a daily reminder for myself and others about this reality.
