Yoville: Jobs design

YoVille was a one of a kind game that released in 2008. It was part home decorator and part social chatroom.

Most players enjoyed it as a single player experience whereby they could purchase homes and fill the rooms with decorations, save the home and do it all again. A much smaller percentage of players saw the game as a chatroom where they hung out, met new people, and made lasting friendships.

These two types of players came together through the form of hosting parties in your home and instantly seeing live players hop in to talk about the decor and tell you how great a job you did.

Since the majority of decorators were not social players, the "Jobs" design aimed to provide a way to get these players validation for their creations. Another experiment was to see if a slot machine type treasure hunting mechanic could work inside this type of game.

The result was a collection of jobs the Player could do each day to earn their drip of coins that took place inside customized homes from the YoVille universe Choose your job type e.g. private detective or ghost hunter and take a tour of some really cool homes in YoVille while spending energy to "dig for treasure," while liking rooms, and leaving comments along the way for players to enjoy upon return.
