Bold slab serif type style coupled with an angular character, mostly playing off the rigid shapes of the architectural supplies the company produces.

Yep, detailed logos like this require a commitment on the part of the company. Using this mark within a branding scheme takes a little extra care.
The type could be isolated by itself for use in small cramped spaces, once the full logo has already been seen.
I would also consider isolating the character's head for use by itself in choice places.

When a branding system is centered around a character/mascot, interesting branding application possibilities tend to present themselves, so I wanted to pitch this and see what they thought.
In the end a different idea, my simplest presented concept, was chosen and finalized.
