Dancing Frogs

My first proper sketch of 2019! I am very interested in Japanese culture and history, and would frequently see images of frogs appearing in Japanese art and Japanese styled tattoos. I looked into the significance of these frogs and found so many interesting beliefs and tales. I learnt that the Japanese word for "frog" (Kaeru) means "return" so travellers would carry frog charms with them to ensure their safe return home due to the help from these lucky animals. I wanted to create a piece inspired by their good fortune and this is what I created.
