eBay China
My team and I spent 1.5 years creating an entirely new and localized eBay experience for China. Our goal was not only to build a killer product for China, but also to create a systematic approach for designing and building highly localized apps for markets outside of the US.
On the tech side, using React, our web app was the fastest version of eBay ever built. On the design side, our team of 4 reinterpreted and localized the in-progress and fledgling US eBay design system for the Chinese market. With this work, we launched the web app in 6 months and the iOS app in 3.
It was no easy feat to coordinate with the larger design org, with stakeholders in China, create our own modified design system, and conduct user research abroad. Ultimately, the project was shuttered, but it was one of the most educating experiences of my life, and we all lived to tell the tale.
