Bardot
Who more than Brigitte Bardot personified the ultimate in French beauty and style during the latter part of the 20th century? Her natural exquisiteness made her an easy subject for me to illustrate and this composition came together in a very natural, intuitive manner as I made use of feminine vintage lettering, rosy illustrated peonies and a black ribbon to tie it all together. The backdrop is, of course, gingham (vichy, in French) – part of Bardot’s iconic image. And last, but not least, the two ‘B’s recall the Serge Gainsbourg song, the Initials BB, that he wrote for Bardot and that was the inspiration for this compositiion.
