Great Molasses Flood 100th Anniversary
Today is the 100th anniversary of the Great Molasses Flood in Boston. Worth looking up for the details and ramifications of the event, but essentially a giant, shoddily-built tank in the North End burst and sent a wave of 2.3 million gallons of molasses through the streets at an estimated 35 mph, killing 21 and injuring 150. People claimed for decades afterwards that the area still smelled of molasses on hot summer days. Made this little badge to commemorate the event.
