This illustration symbolizes a timelapse of the Christian conversion. First, the eye is enslaved and confused by sin. After this, the eye is closed, but when it opens again, it sees the cross. Only after truly seeing the cross, the christian can see the splendor of the cross and the glory of the gospel.
