The logo for SURGE at Dalhousie University is inspired by Hokusai's woodblock print The great wave off Kanagawa and the golden ratio and the golden spiral where used to construct the wave.

SURGE is an innovation sandbox whose aim is to train science students to translate scientific discovery into economic growth and solutions to the world’s big problems.

SURGE main focus areas are ocean science, sustainable/green energy, and neuroscience.
