Flightless Bird Kagu's Voyage

New Caledonia is influenced by French culture very strongly but they still keep their original culture. One of the traditions that they still have today is the skills for making a boat, the pirogue. This tradition is directly connected their history; Melanesian people are among the first people who traveled by boats in history. We focused on this cultural and historical aspect to celebrate their unique rich culture. All the cultural elements are everywhere in the architectural and decorative design in this park. Another aspect that we combined is the rich nature of New Caledonia. The whole site has the water, greenery, grottos and waterfalls that can be found in the natural environments of New Caledonia. This park can be a miniature size representation if the whole island. The design that unites these two different aspects is the character Kagu. The representation of nature telling and following the story of Melanesian history makes this park unique and special for this location.

It was a work for Walt Disney Imaginations, Design Competition 2013 - Semi-Finalist.
