Amish Quilt Exploration Part 1: Crown Of Thorns
Growing up and having family in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania I was always drawn to the patterns of Amish quilts. My mother and grandmother both collected them.
This pattern is called Crown of Thorns. Crown of Thorns is one of the few Amish quilts with distinctively religious connections. It directs one's thinking to the Passion and suffering of Christ. The Amish commitment to discipleship even to death remains strong. Theirs is a spirit of humility and awe before God the Creator and a willingness to give up "worldly" distractions so as to follow the teachings of Jesus more closely.
