Mistletoe Icon

Has anyone seen actual real mistletoe at a holiday party?? I have not. Ever.

Does this custom only exist in holiday romantic comedies? Can one have a platonic friendly kiss under it? Not sure what the rules are but I am intrigued by it's mythology and how it became used a custom. I mean a god gets shot with a mistletoe arrow, other gods bring him back to life and then they decide as a god group that everyone who passed under it should receive a kiss, to show that the branch had become an emblem of love, and not of hate. It's a pretty gnarly origin story.
