The Open Book

You might have spotted an early version of this icon in production for Facebook Questions.

We felt that a light bulb was too closely correlated with “ideas” and since our Questions product is about the exchange of knowledge through questions and answers, we decided to revisit the icon.

Another mechanism that facilities the exchange of knowledge is the book. Before the internet, books were a reliable resource for answering questions about the world.
