Flowcharts everywhere!

A big part of our work as game designers is to create sketches for every aspect of a game. Every screen and puzzle needs to be sketched out and tested in prototypes before being handed over to the art team and to the developers for the next steps.

In many cases we also create follow up sketches to further elaborate on various technical aspects of the games and how things will tie together in the final product.

The combination of detailed flowcharts, written functional requirements and sketched out screens helps us align with the whole team in terms of what needs to be done. These documents give the developers a clear overview of their tasks and to the artists a starting point for their work.

We find that quickly visualising as many aspects of the game as possible, before going into production, helps everyone understand better the mechanics and narratives we are going after.
