In the new version of Messenger we created an illustration style that is Informative, Representative, Expressive, and Messaging Inspired.
Informative - Illustrations supplement experience to help users understand content, features, and information. Composition should be simple and straightforward.
Representative - Concepts and compositions should be representative of the Messenger experience and features.
Expressive - Illustrations should feel vibrant and lively.
Messaging Inspired - Illustrations can reference messaging culture and tools.
We are still fine-tuning the approach and have a lot more to share soon!
