George Brecht essay title page

The goal of this project was to express the content of the essay, Historical Concurrences: Statistics, Science, and Philosophy, through type imagery. The essay explored the potential influence of change processes when creating art. To embrace the use of chance I chose the typestyles and weight variations of the letters in Brecht’s name randomly. Using the results I arranged them in a visually compelling way that I perhaps wouldn’t have made if not for the incorporation of chance. I also chose to put the author’s last name within the first, alluding to the hidden surprises chance process can produce.
