The Bathysphere was a pressurized submersible launched in the 1920s. It went six times deeper than any other vessel. The men inside would describe the creatures they saw to illustrator Else Bostelmann via telephones. Her drawings were circulated in National Geographic, but were almost unbelievable to most people of the day.
