Berber Woman

This is a portrait of a Berber woman wearing traditional clothes. The tattoos on her face are also traditionally designed. As far as I know these tattoos are some sort of protective inscriptions designed to ward off evil spirits. This tradition predates arrival of the Islam and since tattooing is forbidden for Muslims this face tattooing is a dying art.

The client asked me to create this illustration for prints on porcelain plates and other similar dishes and utensils.
