Care Bot

This is my submission for this year’s Cultural Trail Gallery Show. This year our objective was to do a rendition of an existing piece of art on the Cultural Trail in Indianapolis. I chose to base mine on an installation that looks very much like a “Walk, Don’t Walk”sign, but instead it says “ Don’t Care, Care”. You press a button while you’re waiting to cross the street and you can change that from care or don’t care.

I wanted to reimagine what that sign would look like in action. What does it look like when it doesn’t care. And I guess the subject hit home for me. It feels like most people are in a state of apathy. Or it at least seems like the cool thing to do to not care, or only care for yourself. I kind of wanted to send a message what it is I feel I see, and to charge people to be the change, be the person who cares, even it seems like everyone else doesn’t.
