A Daruma doll is a traditional Japanese doll, seen as a symbol for good luck and perseverance. Typically daruma are sold with blank eyes. You fill in one eye and set a goal/wish at the beginning. When the goal/wish is accomplished, you fill in his other eye. It is said that in order to get his other eye, the Daruma will grant your wish.
