Kill some time.

I don't usually do illustrations all that much (although I do enjoy it). I doodled the unbroken hourglass to play a bit with simple forms, simple perspective, shadow and transparency.

Then I had the idea of breaking it, and just tried to find out if it could be done easily enough.
