The first Afroamerican in the space

Cuban cosmonaut and pilot Arnaldo Tamayo Mendez traveled into space onthisday in 1980. As a member of the crew of soyuz 38 he flew together with soviet cosmonaut Yuri Romanenko. He became the first person of african descendent, the first latinamerican , and the first cuban citizen to travel into earth orbit.
