Cash Crop
Cash crop. The next entry in my series of beer cans.
Cash crops (corn and soybeans) are inescapable in midwestern agriculture. This is surprising to some people because corn and soybeans aren't eaten by humans very often, so it seems strange that we produce so much. Corn and beans are used to feed livestock, processed into other food products, or used to make bio-fuels, like ethanol.
There are definitely issues and vulnerabilities with a system that is so heavily invested in these two staples crops, but they're an inescapable part of the world.
