Is typography just design or art

My last toughts about experimental typography..

The type is on a probality curve.. where the vectorpoints are everytime on the same place, but the the shape is constantly changing.

The main question is: can we use the type without the readability or recognition? If yes, then can be the font much more as itself.. Can be a font like an artwork?
