Introducing McCarthy the Magician
Yesterday was my birthday. It’s a day I am proud to share with Dr. Donald W. McCarthy, my grandfather, who passed away on that date 8 years ago. He was a father of five, a husband of 50 years, a PhD, a pioneer in education, an accomplished trumpet player, and one of the most brilliant/eccentric people I’ll ever know. But his greatest passion was magic. He performed on stage as McCarthy the Magician, collected valuable magic memorabilia, and published multiple books that used magic to teach math and science to kids. In seeking a name for my studio I kept coming back to that title. Digital artists perform magic of our own — with honed skillsets, misdirection, and using technology once only found in science fiction we craft visual stories out of thin air. I think he’ll be okay with me borrowing the name.
It’s still a work in progress, the workshopping will likely never really end, but I wanted to share some of what I’ll be doing as my age 31 year will be the year where I earnestly give this thing a go because that’s what he would’ve wanted me to do. Thanks and stay tuned for more.
