Star Artwork 1 - Whetu Tahi

The first piece in a new series based on the stars. These works are much smaller than the moon series that I began in 2014. Growing up in a small town we spent many nights out in the open, gazing up at the stars. Finding our bearings by the Southern Cross.

In New Zealand the Maori new year begins with the reappearance of the Matariki star cluster (Pleiades or Seven Sisters). Stars were also important to the early navigators who came down from the Pacific Islands to discover Aotearoa New Zealand.

So many stars, so many artworks to create.
360mm diameter.
