Inahjay Logo Design

Recently had the pleasure of giving the Inahjay NGO a new logo.

Inahjay comes from the Mandingo "Inah" meaning "mother," and the Bassa "Ehjay/Wahjay" meaning "because of them" or "for their sake." So Inahjay translates to "Because of Our Mother." Everything that the organization does is from the concept of one woman, a single mother, a sojourner who multitasks to provide all things for her children and allows nothing to limit their possibilities nor impede their growth.

I didn't want to go for a cliche "mother logo," I wanted to create an original design that would speak to the mission and heritage of the Inahjay founders. Drawing inspiration from the work of Aaron Douglas and motifs from traditional African iconography I created an image that speaks to the strength, resilience, and endurance of a mother as she upholds her values and lifts up her children.
