Japanese Software Localization
Design Challenge:
A design challenge for the Original iTools Launch was to create a familiar experience for non-native English speakers. This required the localization of all microcopy as well as the internationalization of the software to support different languages and cultural norms.
Research and Planning: To begin the localization and internationalization process, a thorough analysis of the target markets was conducted. This included researching the languages spoken in each target market, as well as the cultural norms and expectations of people in those markets.
Based on the research, a comprehensive localization plan was developed that included the translation of all microcopy, as well as the internationalization of the software to support multiple languages. The plan also included the creation of localized versions of the software for each target market, as well as the incorporation of cultural-specific features and functionality.
Design and Implementation: The localized versions of the software were designed with the needs of non-native English speakers in mind, with a focus on clear and concise language, as well as intuitive navigation. The software was also designed to be easily translatable, with all user-facing text stored in separate files for easy localization.
The internationalization of the software involved the incorporation of features such as support for different languages, date and time formats, and currency. The software was also designed to automatically detect the language of the people and adjust the interface accordingly.
Results and Conclusion:
The Original iTools Launch well-received by people in a variety of countries and languages. The localization and internationalization efforts played a crucial role in the success of the launch, by making the software accessible and familiar to a global audience.
In conclusion, the localization and internationalization of software is an important aspect of product design that can greatly increase the potential reach of a product.
