Continue to experiment with Illustrator + Photoshop + Negative Space. The technique is pretty basic. You create all main shapes in vector in Adobe Illustrator and export your graphic design in .psd format. After that open an exported .psd file in Adobe Photoshop and add textures and any other required details. I have to say that Photoshop helps drastically to expand the possibilities to work with depth and textures. Definitely must try if you didn't yet!
