Photography portfolio
I've always been both a web developer and photographer and so I've been through many many iterations of a personal photography portfolio.
There's been so many challenges for me over the years when developing a photography web site
— Balancing personal web design style with photography style
— Depth of filtering and sorting of images
— Various others...
I've learnt so much over the past few months and my personal web design style has evolved. I believe I've built a responsive and super usable design that's also really sexy.
I've given some long and hard thought to the smaller less obvious aspects of a photography portfolio design. Previously, I would have given individual photos their own pages but I realised that were I or another to link to that photo, it would lose all of its context. Photos can also appear in more than one location i.e. in multiple photo sets. So instead, I designed it better: the root of all photos' URLs includes the set from which the original user found them.
The aspect I've always found most difficult to design is the landing page. I reviewed various photographer's web sites and found that the go to is to feature a big hero image. I've built a set of some of my favourite images and one is chosen at random per visit.
Anyway, hope you gals and guys love it!
