Shelby Cobra raced by David Piper

Everything about the Shelby Cobra 427 Competition Model was built for performance not luxury. With no convertible roof and plexiglas side windows exposing it to harsh weather, minimal interior and side-oiled pipes, this roadster is not for faint hearted. You'd be forgiven not risking your life racing the Cobra 427 through torrential British rain.

Aside from the less than ideal setup for rain, the Cobra 427 also requires much more attention and prowess from the racer due to it's unforgiving nature. However, if you combine the potential of the 427 with expert racers, you'll get an outcome similar to May 8th, 1966 at Brands Hatch Circuit where co-drivers David Piper and Bob Bondurant came 1st overall. Even the likes of Ford's GT40 and that infamous British rain couldn't match this unstoppable winning combination.
