The Lotus Temple - Icon Illustration

The Lotus Temple derives its name from its design. Like every other Bahāʾī mashriq, it is characterized by a nine-sided construction, in keeping with the Bahāʾī belief in the mystical properties of the number nine.

In the early 21st century it was one of only seven mashriqs in the world.
