Loel - Car Loaning App
Loel is an online lending mobile app for Android. The app surprisingly allows users to use the value of their car as a guarantee for getting a loan. You may ask “how do you even estimate the value of your car with an app?” That’s what we’re unpacking here.
In this case study, we’ll explore how we came up with a way to estimate the value of your vehicle. For full case study, click here: https://www.shibidesigns.com/loel/
Problem definition Applying for a loan can sometimes be a lengthy process, especially in situations where you are using property as a collateral for the loan (a car in many cases). You need to setup an appointment with an inspector who runs a series of tests to ensure the value of your vehicle is estimated accurately. Loel is tackling this problem with as an Android app.
Value Proposition Loel prides itself as the first online lending platform for secured credit. The app will validate the user’s identity, verify car ownership and the car’s condition and provide a nearly immediate loan offer.
Functional Flow This is the first document we had to start from. A basic run down of the app in a good old listed format:
Brainstorming Sometimes, nothing beats pen and paper for sketching out ideas and organizing them. When you have the option, it’s always better to show your ideas than have to explain them.
Sketching & Wireframing First, sketching the core screens of the app.
It turns out if we allow users to use their camera and GPS, they can assess their car value themselves without the need of an inspector to show up!
The users would take a picture of themselves, their registration, driver’s license, license plate and odometer. That will confirm the information they input manually when applying for the loan.
Then they can activate their GPS and drive their car around the block to confirm that the car is in working conditions.
They then pick their preferred loan options, create an account with Loel and finally input their banking information for review.
Designing the interface and presenting the solution After a couple of weeks of back and forth, here is our final proof of concept.
