Juneteenth. 2018. As today commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery on June 19, 1865 in the state of Texas, I can't help but think about the countless families separated from their children and loved ones at our borders. What should be a day of celebration and a positive outlook for the future, is marred by the inhumane treatment of innocent human beings. We've come so far only to find ourselves catapulted back to a time we thought was left behind. We have to do better. Demand more from the legislators that are supposed to represent us all.
