Foursquare - Tip Voting

Before voting on a tip in Foursquare, you were able to “like” it. We’d heard a lot of feedback that people wanted to be able to dislike a tip as well. I worked on introducing tip upvoting and downvoting in June of 2016 to give people the option to up/down vote on other people’s tips. Downvoting was tricky, mainly because there are potentially multiple reasons to downvote... including (but not limited to) if you disagree with the tip, thought it was no longer relevant, unfunny, offensive, spam, etc.
