095 Wassily Chair

New day, new chair. This is day no.95, so excited to see the finishing line from here! #100iconicdesigns has been my side project for a little over 3 months now, so glad I’ve decided to do it.

095 Wassily chair
Also known as Model B3 chair, Wassily chair was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925-26 while he was the head of the cabinet-making workshop at the Bauhaus. Contrary to what the name may suggest, the chair has no connection to painter Wassily Kandinsky: the name was in fact appointed decades later when a new company started producing them.
This chair was revolutionary in the use of the materials (bent tubular steel and eisengarn) and methods of manufacturing. In 1925 Breuer purchased his first bicycle and he was impressed with the lightness of its tubular steel frame. This inspired him to experiment with using the material in furniture design.
