Unheimlich (German origin)
literally “un-homelike”; a peculiar commingling of the familiar and unfamiliar. “we are comfortable with the familiar, and we are comfortable with the wholly unfamiliar (which we perceive as exotic) but when the two are combined, we begin to feel unstable. the result is an experience of oneself as a foreign body.” (quote and word taken from On Trails by Robert Moor)
