MLB’s Cleveland Indians Rebranded as Cleveland Coasters

Due to Native American sports team nicknames being a controversial topic the blog Uni Watch ran a rebranding contest for the Cleveland Indians. The first thing I had to think of was a new nickname and since the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland I thought of renaming the team the Cleveland Rockers; however I knew dozens of people would submit that name and I wanted something that would be unique and stand out. So the next name I thought of was Rock ‘n’ Rollers, but again, others would submit this, but the next name I thought of was Roller Coasters. I shortened it to Coasters since Cleveland starts with a hard C sound but figured the team could still be referred to as the “Rockin’ Roller” Coasters in marketing campaigns. I mentioned this idea to my friend who is into art and she said it was a great nickname because the Cedar Point amusement park is close to Cleveland and it is world famous for its roller coasters. That was when I knew it wasn’t just a great new nickname but the *perfect* new nickname.

The logo you see here is pretty much self explanatory: it is a baseball with its stitching doubling as a roller coaster hill. What you probably don’t know is the colors in this logo were taken from the Cleveland city flag, and just in case you’re wondering why the logo looks dated it’s because I am obsessed with logos from the 1970’s and they are a major influence in the style of my artwork. The font I chose is appropriately named Carnival and just so you know t-shirts featuring this logo are available for purchase here: https://skreened.com/forwardprogresstees/cleveland-coasters-baseball-team-logo-tee
