5/52: Hacksaw Ridge

5/52: Hacksaw Ridge (2016) - ★★★½

Review: "1st Act: dialogue was a bit corny in places, and felt a bit like you could tell it was done by someone who dedicated a whole film to the passion of the Christ. I found the faith aspect really interesting as some of the issues thrown up in the film I think about myself, but was maybe a bit simplified/reduced. Andrew Garfield did however make a very likeable protagonist within the first 5 minutes, and Vince Vaughan can do no wrong in my eyes. Also Hugo Weaving did an amazingly heartbreaking performance of an abusive father that I actually felt sympathy for.

2nd Act: this was equally thrilling and hard to watch, beautifully rounded off with the real life interview clips. This made me just amazed at the story. I’ve seen enough fruit coulis limbs for a while though. Wince inducing gore. Also very odd focus on Japanese ceremony at the end.

All in all, a good watch."
