Old school game hog

Another one for my pixel protest series.

I was a teen in 1984. What I remember the most was my local arcade. The Space Port.

It was lit with black lights, which made everything glow. The place was filled with lights and sounds crowds of kids lined up 2-3 deep to try out the newest games.

It was really awesome so long as you had a quarter and no game hogs sitting on the game you were dying to play.

Nobody socialized, kids just showed off their skills or were playing for the high score. You’d gawk at girls, endure hecklers and wait your turn by putting your quarter(s) at the end of the line of quarters ahead of you. Whatever you put up announced what you intended to play. 4 quarter was a regular wait. 25 meant you might as well forget it and go play another game.

I still remember the first roll of quarters my uncle gave me. I played Pac-Man until my hands were numb.

Now I still at a computer all day for work. Its nothing like what I imagined it would be. Offices shown in ads back then looked very different from what we have now.

Wish there was an 8-bit chime that’d play each time a design pattern symbol was created.
