This is my small contribution to 85 for 85, a project that aims to right the wrong done to Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and the people who hold those places dear. Here's what I wrote to accompany the piece:

With the privilege of parks & monuments comes responsibility for land that is neither yours nor mine—only ours. When under threat, it’s on us to defend our right to preserve & enjoy these places, assign meaning to them, and keep it all intact for generations to come.
