Loading Icons for Joshua Bell VR

I created some loading icons for Joshua Bell VR at Sony PlayStation.

Joshua Bell VR  is a 360 degree, stereoscopic 3D, VR experience for PlayStation VR in which famous violinist, Joshua Bell, plays Brahms Hungarian Dance No1 alongside pianist, Sam Haywood. On the project I was responsible for the UI, art direction/branding and implementing the localisation of over 30 different languages.

The project was the winner of the Advanced Imaging Society's 8th Annual Lumiere Awards 2016 in the category of "VR Music".

Although the content begins to load as soon as the application is opened, in the event it was still loading, we needed an indicator on screen to reassure the user. In the end we went for the middle one as it was more in line with the rest of the aesthetic as there were floating notes all around the user during the UI phase of the application.

Careful thought had to be put into the proximity and placement of the main elements to find a balance between creating interest through depth perception whilst avoiding depth conflicts, retinal rivalry and scintillation.

You can find a few other components of the project in the attachments or you can read about the design process over on Medium.

As always, thanks for checking out my work! More of it can be found on my Instagram & Behance.
